Kelly Ripa recently shared that she followed her husband Mark Consuelos’ high-protein diet for 72 hours to fit into her dress for the Oscars. Ripa, 54, mentioned on their show “Live with Kelly and Mark” that she was having trouble zipping up her side-zip dress before the Academy Awards. “It was a side zip, the dress,” Ripa explained.
“And I kept getting zipped into the dress. I don’t know if any women here have experienced having your side skin zipped into your dress. It is a punishing thing.”
To solve the problem, Ripa took Consuelos’ advice and adopted his disciplined, protein-heavy diet.
Despite not being a fan of animal protein, she stuck to the diet for three days. “I didn’t love the diet, noting that she is “not big on animal protein,” but I ate exactly how you told me to eat, and that dress zipped right up. No side skin.
And I looked super fit. Super, super fit,” Ripa said. Consuelos, also 54, highlighted the importance of fiber when increasing protein intake.
Kelly’s protein diet success
“It’s really, really important. Recommended 25 grams of fiber per day for women, 38 grams for men.
It’s crucial for maintaining a healthy gut microbiome and may lower the rates of chronic diseases such as diabetes,” he said. During the conversation, Consuelos shared a humorous anecdote from a male perspective. “Sometimes guys get their front skin zipped into their stuff,” he remarked with a laugh.
“You’ll never forget that. Only once.” The admission sent both the audience and Ripa into fits of laughter. Ripa admitted that this was the only time she listened to her husband about her diet.
“Because I typically don’t like to do what you’re doing. I just find you’re way too disciplined. I can’t live that way.
But for like 72 hours, I can live like Mark Consuelos for 72 hours,” she said. The couple’s candid discussion on the show offered an intriguing glimpse into their personal lives and health habits, with Ripa concluding that while she wouldn’t adopt the diet full-time, it certainly worked wonders in a pinch.
