The hit U.K. series “Adolescence” continues its impressive run on Netflix. The show jumped to No. 4 on the streamer’s list of most popular English-language series.
It leapfrogged over popular titles such as “The Queen’s Gambit,” “The Night Agent,” and “Fool Me Once.”
“Adolescence” debuted less than a month ago. It has already amassed over 114 million views, Netflix reports. Of that total, 17.8 million views were recorded last week alone.
This made it the most-watched show for the week. It surpassed other popular titles like “Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer.”
The series is set in the U.K. It tells the gripping story of a family whose life is turned upside down. This happens when 13-year-old Jamie Miller, played by Owen Cooper, is arrested.
He is charged with the murder of a teenage girl from his school. Stephen Graham stars as Jamie’s father, Eddie Miller. He serves as his “appropriate adult” in police procedures.
Ashley Walters stars as Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe.
Adolescence ranks as streaming favorite
Erin Doherty plays Briony Ariston, the clinical psychologist assigned to Jamie’s case.
“Adolescence” reunites Graham with director Philip Barantini. The duo previously collaborated on the feature film “Boiling Point.” Each episode of “Adolescence” is filmed as a one-shot. The series is created and written by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne.
Thorne is known for “The Swimmers.” Executive producers include Mark Herbert and Emily Feller for Warp Films. Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters serve as executive producers for Matriarch Productions. Jack Thorne does so for One Shoe Films, and Philip Barantini for It’s All Made Up Productions.
Additionally, Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner, and Nina Wolarsky are executive producers for Plan B Entertainment. Carina Sposato, Peter Balm, and Niall Shamma are co-executive producers. Jo Johnson is the producer.
“Adolescence” has quickly become a must-watch series. It reflects its strong narrative and compelling performances. This makes it a standout among Netflix’s vast library.
