Nicole Kidman made a splash at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday. The 57-year-old actress attended the Kering Women in Motion Talk at the Majestic Hotel in Cannes, France. It was her first appearance at the festival in eight years.

Kidman wore a black corset-style leather jacket by Balenciaga. She paired it with loose jeans and pointy black flats. Her long, blonde hair cascaded down with a center part.

The event recognized women who have made significant contributions to film. Kidman will receive the 2025 Women in Motion Award at the festival. “Nicole Kidman has built a career marked as much by her artistic audacity as by her virtuosity and transformative portrayals that have reshaped the representation of women on screen,” read the official announcement.

Kidman’s Cannes return for award

Kidman’s last appearance in Cannes was in 2017 for her role in Sofia Coppola’s “The Beguiled.” She co-starred with Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning in the film. At the Kering Women in Motion Talk, Kidman discussed the importance of giving young female filmmakers a chance.

She made a public vow in 2017 to work with a woman director every 18 months. “I was going to make it possible,” Kidman said. “You’d go, ‘Could a woman direct this?’ And there wasn’t a number of names where you could even consider people.”

Since her vow, Kidman has worked with 27 female directors over the past eight years.

She also addressed the significance of resisting ageism in the film industry. “You get to a certain age and maybe you had made a great film in your 20s that got lauded, and then suddenly you’re in your 40s and you haven’t followed it up or made choices that didn’t succeed,” Kidman stated. “But you’re like, ‘I’m not over! Please still keep believing in me and investing in me.’ That is important too, resisting ageism.”
