"I feel like I'm currently Bong 8. My life belongs to the films I make. I don’t know how many more deaths I can go through before I actually die": I talked with Bong Joon-ho about killing himself to make his blistering die-another-day satire, MICKEY 17 https://t.co/sV3p3JALVx

Robert Pattinson’s dual performance in Bong Joon-ho’s new sci-fi film “Mickey 17” is creating a buzz even before the movie’s release. Acclaimed filmmaker Park Chan-wook, known for “Oldboy” and “The Handmaiden,” is particularly impressed by Pattinson’s portrayal of two characters in the film. Park voiced his admiration as part of “Mickey 17″‘s promotion in South Korea.
“To the Academy members, please give Robert Pattinson the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards,” Park urged. “Give him both!!”

Pattinson’s unique dual role in “Mickey 17” lends some credibility to Park’s suggestion. The movie features Pattinson as Mickey, a character who has several clones.
#Mickey17 hits theaters Friday, bringing a novel by @ur_engineering alumnus @edashtonwriting to the big screen. How does a story by a #ROC cancer researcher become a film by #Oscar winning director Bong Joon-Ho? It's a tale stranger than fiction @UofR https://t.co/faU63huK6S

The protagonist is the 17th clone, who, along with Mickey 18, challenges their colony’s oppressive conditions. Pattinson’s extensive screentime as both characters opens the possibility for separate nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.

These are categories where distinct performances are recognized, as per the Academy’s rules. There has been precedent for actors receiving nominations in both categories for different roles. Scarlett Johansson achieved this in 2020, with nominations for Best Actress for “Marriage Story” and Best Supporting Actress for “Jojo Rabbit.”
However, no actor has achieved this milestone for performances within the same film.
If Pattinson were to receive a dual nomination, it would be a groundbreaking event in Academy Awards history. “Mickey 17” is Bong Joon-ho’s follow-up to his 2019 Best Picture winner, “Parasite.” Adapted from Edward Ashton’s book “Mickey7,” the film features a star-studded cast including Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, and Steven Yeun. “Mickey 17” is set to premiere in US and UK theatres on March 7, 2025.
As the release date approaches, anticipation builds. Fans and critics alike are eager to see if Robert Pattinson’s performances will indeed earn him the historic dual recognition at the Oscars.
