Prakash Jha, the director of the critically acclaimed political drama “Raajneeti,” has confirmed that a sequel to the film is currently in the works. Released in 2010, “Raajneeti” featured an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee, Nana Patekar, and Naseeruddin Shah. Speaking about the film’s 15th anniversary, Jha expressed his enthusiasm for the sequel, stating, “Raajneeti ki yatra toh anvarat hai, chalti hi rehti hai! There’s always been a plan for Raajneeti 2.

While there is nothing concrete in terms of casting and shooting yet, I am currently working on it.”

The original film, often regarded as a modern adaptation of the Mahabharata, achieved cult status for its compelling storyline and powerful performances. The characters drew parallels to the epic, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying a reluctant Arjuna-like figure and Ajay Devgn as the cursed Karna. Jha recounted the challenges faced during the making of “Raajneeti,” which involved a year of pre-production and the casting of around 8,000 actors to ensure authenticity in crowd scenes.

He noted that the ensemble cast was drawn to the script and eager to perform. The film’s soundtrack, featuring compositions by Aadesh Shrivastava, Pritam, Shantanu Moitra, and Wayne Sharpe, with lyrics by Gulzar, Irshad Kamil, Sameer, and Swanand Kirkire, was another memorable aspect.

The song “Mora Piya Mose Bolat Naahin,” created by Aadesh Shrivastava, became a significant hit. Jha’s dedication to authenticity was evident in various production choices, such as using lower-quality flags to portray genuine political rallies and booking extensive local accommodations for the cast and crew during the shoot in Bhopal. As fans eagerly await more details on “Raajneeti 2,” it is clear that Prakash Jha intends to approach the sequel with the same dedication and attention to detail that made the original film a standout success in Indian cinema.
