Summer H. Howell will star as Carrie White in Mike Flanagan’s upcoming eight-episode series adaptation of Stephen King’s classic horror novel “Carrie.” The show, which is being produced exclusively for Prime Video, began filming this week. Flanagan announced the start of production in an Instagram post and revealed an impressive cast of notable actors.
The ensemble includes Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Thalia Dudek, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Joel Oulette, Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder, Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Katee Sackhoff, Rahul Kohli, Crystal Balint, Danielle Klaudt, Heather Graham, Tim Bagley, Tahmoh Penikett, Mapuana Makia, Naika Toussaint, Delainey Hayles, and Cassandra Naud Rowan. The series will follow misfit high schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. Filming begins on ‘Carrie’ series
Flanagan, who is serving as writer and showrunner in addition to directing select episodes, describes the show as “a bold and timely reimagining” of King’s story. He is executive producing alongside his longtime producing partner Trevor Macy.
This marks Flanagan’s fourth adaptation of a King work, following “Gerald’s Game,” “Doctor Sleep,” and “The Life of Chuck.”
“Carrie” has been adapted for the screen several times before, most notably by Brian De Palma in 1976. There was also a TV movie directed by David Carson in 2002 and a film by Kimberly Peirce in 2013. Flanagan’s new series aims to bring a fresh perspective to the iconic story, blending horror with timely social themes that connect with today’s audience.
With an impressive cast and Flanagan at the helm, this adaptation of “Carrie” is shaping up to be a compelling reimagining of a classic tale.
