How to Plan the Perfect Romantic Getaway

7 Min Read

Traveling with your significant other is a chance to unwind. You’re away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and able to focus your full attention on your loved one. From a sandy beach to a snowcapped mountain, these are trips of a lifetime.

And that’s why it’s so important to devote the necessary time and effort to planning your trip for two. Avoiding bumps and preparing for the unexpected can all be helpful to ensure your time away is exactly what you need. Here are a few ways to plan your dream romantic getaway that’s heavy on romance and light on turmoil.

Get Ahead of Jet Lag

There’s a lot of buildup to a long-awaited trip. You’ve painstakingly booked accommodations and packed your bags. You’ve taken time off work and are prepared to be away. Naturally, you don’t want anything to get in between you and your romantic getaway. If you’re traveling to a different time zone, though, jet lag may do just that.

The grogginess makes it hard to find the motivation to go and do activities. The time change means three in the morning feels more like noon, making sleep hard to come by. And the lack of rest makes everyone feel ever so slightly irritable. That’s not a winning recipe for an idyllic romantic vacation.

Avoid it altogether by packing a jet lag supplement to curb the side effects of your long journey. You and your loved one will feel better and be able to maximize your time in your destination because of it. That’s how you start your romantic trip off on the right foot.

Know What You Want from Your Trip

Wanting to hike, bike, and scale literal mountains sounds like a great time. That is, until you realize your partner wants to spend their time lying poolside with a drink in hand. While both are valid, they’re not the same romantic getaway. That’s why aligning on the goals of your trip ahead of time is key.

Sit down when you’re in the early stages of planning to decide what your non-negotiables are for your vacation. Land on a destination, but also determine if you’ll spend more for a luxurious hotel or on fun-filled excursions. Think about what you and your partner enjoy doing together and how much time, if any, you want to spend apart.

Knowing you’re on the same page sets you up for a better trip. There are no surprises when you’re suiting up at the crack of dawn for a sunrise walk on the beach. There’s no resentment because the trip didn’t end up being relaxing enough. While the planning itself isn’t very romantic, investing time to ensure you both get what you want surely is.

Make a Meal Itinerary

There’s nothing sexy about waiting 45 minutes in a crowded restaurant entryway before your name is called to be seated. The minutes drag on as more and more people move from the front of the restaurant to the serene seats to eat. Meanwhile, you and your love are forced to sit by and watch while your stomachs ache. Not exactly the ideal scenario you envisioned.

That’s why it’s critical to plan what you’re going to eat and when in advance and add those to your trip itinerary. This benefits your trip in a few ways. For one, you’re not left wondering when your next snack or meal is because you both already know.

Plus, reservations mean the rest of your day is flexible. You can book a spontaneous couples massage at two since dinner isn’t until six, for example. These types of adjustments leave room for last-minute adjustments that curb feelings of hanger. And that can be a difference-maker for the enjoyment of the trip overall.

Take Care of At-Home Responsibilities Early

There’s a lot that goes into maintaining a daily life. You’re managing laundry, cleaning, cooking, and work. Plus, you’re trying to stay on top of your social life and your kids’ activities, too. A romantic vacation means leaving that all behind — unless you’re unprepared.

You and your partner want your trip to be smooth sailing, but that’s hard if something goes awry at home. So, take steps to proactively prevent that by covering at-home responsibilities as much as possible. Securing child or pet care makes leaving easier because you know they’ll be safe. Setting up automatic payments for household bills ensures everything stays current.

These aren’t the fun parts of planning a romantic getaway, but problems at home can turn a would-be fantastic trip upside down. Early on in the trip coordinating process, knock out these more routine tasks. Then, you’re left to choose which way you want your adventure to go and can fully enjoy it once you’re there.

Trip for Two

A couple’s trip is destined to be chock-full of fun, loving memories. There’s nothing like spending one-on-one time with your significant other. So, dedicate the time to prepare for your vacation as best as possible. Align with your partner on what you want to do most while away, and you’ll be set for the trip of a lifetime.
