Tom Hardy stars in the 2017 period drama series “Taboo.” The show aired only one season but has seen a resurgence on global charts. It currently holds the ninth spot in the Top 10 TV Shows on iTunes and is the Number 1 show on iTunes in France as of July 5. In “Taboo,” Hardy plays James Keziah Delaney, a rogue adventurer who returns to London during the War of 1812.

His goal is to rebuild his late father’s shipping empire. Delaney comes back from Africa with 14 ill-gotten diamonds. He seeks vengeance for his father’s death and refuses to sell the family business to the East India Company.

Instead, he sets out to build his own trade and shipping empire while playing a dangerous game between Britain and America. Hardy co-created the series with his father, Edward “Chips” Hardy, and Steven Knight, the award-winning creator of “Peaky Blinders.” The show has made a lasting impact on the genre and Hardy’s career. The cast includes Jonathan Pryce, Oona Chaplin, Stephen Graham, Richard Dixon, Leo Bill, Edward Hogg, Ruby-May Martinwood, Jessie Buckley, Franka Potente, and four-time Emmy nominee Michael Kelly.

Tom Hardy teases Taboo return

“Taboo” has a 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. This reflects its popularity and the desire for a second season.

Hardy addressed the long hiatus between seasons. He explained that he and Knight wanted to take their time to do it properly. Hardy said, “It’s something we wanted to take time to do properly.

I’ve been working for the last seven years on other projects, so it had to take a little bit of a backseat, but it’s something that I’m very passionate about. When I have the space properly to commit, I’d revisit properly.”

In the U.S., “Taboo” aired on FX and is available for streaming on Peacock, Plex, Pluto TV, and Tubi. It remains uncertain when or if a second season will happen.

However, fans of the show can only hope for its return, given its impact and Hardy’s commitment to the project.
