Valerie Bertinelli recently made a surprising revelation on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” The 64-year-old actress shared that she had a brief romance with director Steven Spielberg in the early 1980s. Bertinelli said she went to read for a role in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and Spielberg asked her out on a date. They were together for about three or four months when Bertinelli was 20 and Spielberg was 34.
She even accompanied him to the Oscars the year Sally Field won Best Actress, which was in 1980. The relationship did not last, but Bertinelli joked that she still wanted her bowling shirt back from Spielberg. “I didn’t get it out of the closet when we broke up,” she said with a laugh.
Barrymore was shocked by the revelation. “WHAT?!” she screamed. “How have we never talked about this?!”
Bertinelli confirmed they had fun together during their short time as a couple.
Valerie’s brief romance with Spielberg
“I had a ball with him,” she said. The same year she dated Spielberg, Bertinelli met Eddie Van Halen.
They married a year later in 1981 and were together for over 20 years before divorcing in 2007. More recently, Bertinelli dated Mike Goodnough, whom she met on Instagram. They were together for 10 months but eventually broke up due to busy schedules.
Goodnough acknowledged their split in an April 18 Instagram post. “Our time as a couple ended months ago but our close contact only really ended recently,” he wrote. “I accept it.
With that said, this chapter is now closed for me.”
During the show, Bertinelli also shared that she told her son Wolfgang not to approve any Van Halen biopics until after she has passed away. The actress continues to engage audiences with her candid stories and ongoing career.
