Anurag Kashyap recently shared how actor Vijay Sethupathi helped him during a financial crunch. This enabled Kashyap to fund his daughter Aaliyah’s wedding. Kashyap had been receiving offers to act in South Indian films after his role in “Imaikka Nodigal.” However, he turned them down until he met Sethupathi while working on “Kennedy.”
During one of their meetings, Sethupathi mentioned a script he thought Kashyap should consider.
“I was hesitant, but Vijay helped me discover something valuable in ‘Kennedy,'” Kashyap said. Kashyap confided in Sethupathi about his financial worries regarding Aaliyah’s wedding. “I told him, ‘I need to get my daughter married next year, and I don’t think I can afford it.’ Vijay said, ‘We’ll help you.’ And that’s how ‘Maharaja’ happened,” revealed Kashyap.

“Maharaja,” directed by Nithilan Saminathan, was released in June 2024. It featured a stellar cast including Vijay Sethupathi, Mamta Mohandas, Natty Subramaniam, Abhirami, and Divyabharathi.
The film was a sleeper hit, earning 190 crore worldwide and becoming one of the year’s highest-grossing Tamil films. Aaliyah Kashyap tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Shane Gregoire in December 2024 in Mumbai. The wedding reception was attended by celebrities such as Naga Chaitanya, Sobhita Dhulipala, Abhishek Bachchan, Suhana Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Bobby Deol.
