The actor and comedian, known for his laid-back fashion sense, appeared in a baby blue zip-up Aviator Nation hoodie paired with basketball shorts, a stark contrast to the usual glamorous attire seen at the prestigious event. Conan O’Brien, hosting the ceremony, couldn’t help but poke fun at Sandler’s casual look.

“For such a prestigious night, it’s important that everyone is properly dressed,” O’Brien quipped, adding that Sandler looked “like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m.”

In response, Sandler humorously defended his choice, shouting, “Nobody even thought about what I was wearing till you brought it up! I like the way I look because I’m a good person. I don’t care about what I wear or what I don’t wear.” In a mock display of indignation, Sandler questioned if his “snazzy gym shorts and fluffy sweatshirt” were so offensive they deserved O’Brien’s public teasing.

The playful exchange continued with Sandler pretending to threaten to leave the ceremony, prompting O’Brien to apologize. Sandler lightened the mood by inviting the audience to join him for a game of five-on-five basketball. O’Brien interspersed his jabs with moments of sincerity, acknowledging the contributions of behind-the-scenes Hollywood professionals such as craftspeople, artisans, technicians, and costumers.
Reflecting on the significance of the Oscars, O’Brien remarked, “For almost a century, we have paused every spring to elevate and celebrate an art form that has the power, at its very best, to unite us. Even in the face of terrible wildfires and divisive politics, the work continues.”
The night served as a reminder of the blend of humor and respect that characterizes Hollywood’s biggest celebration.
