Warner Bros Discovery has decided against selling its Polish broadcaster TVN after completing a strategic review of the business. The decision was announced in a memo sent to staff by Gerhard Zeiler, WBD’s president of international, and Kasia Kieli, the head of Poland and TVN chief executive. The memo stated, “That review has been completed, and WBD has concluded that the best path forward is retaining ownership of TVN, continuing to support our business, our strategy, and the incredible journalistic work of our team.”

TVN, which includes a streaming service, several entertainment channels, and two news networks, is the largest and most profitable business within WBD’s international operations.

It had attracted interest from potential buyers such as Michal Solowow’s MS Galleon fund, media group WP Holding, and MediaForEurope. However, the Polish government’s classification of TVN as a “strategic company” that cannot be sold without its approval was a significant factor in WBD’s decision.

Concerns about Russian interference in the upcoming Polish elections, global geopolitical risks, and economic uncertainties also influenced the choice to retain ownership of the network. The official sales process did not advance to the bidding stage. WBD acknowledged the period of uncertainty for staff but reassured them of a united and dedicated path forward.

“We know that this period of uncertainty may have been difficult, and we appreciate your continued dedication and unwavering focus,” the memo from Kieli and Zeiler read. “Moving forward, we are united as part of the WBD team, dedicated to supporting our colleagues and driving the success of our group.”
