Marcos Leal, former vocalist of Latin nü-metal band Ill Niño, has expressed doubts about the release of the group’s long-awaited albums “IllMortals Vol. 1” and “Vol. 2.” In a statement shared on January 13th, Leal revealed that the albums remain unmixed and unmastered, with no clear resolution in sight.
The uncertainty surrounding the albums began in July 2024 when the band missed their planned release for “IllMortals Vol. 1,” initially set for June 28th. While the single “Beast Inside” eventually emerged, the album itself did not follow.
Matters worsened in September when Leal departed the band, leading to both albums being shelved. Leal attributed the delays and issues to internal dysfunction within the band, denying rumors of production issues, label disputes, or guest artist collaborations. He specified that the only contributors were himself, ex-guitarist Marc Rizzo, and occasional appearances from percussionist Miggy Sanchez.
Leal doubts Ill Niño albums
“As it sits right now, the record is still unmixed and unmastered, still lacking critical contributions from the ‘OG’ members who just never played on it,” Leal stated. “Not one other member apart of the current I.N line-up plays on this record.
Just me, Marc Rizzo, and our producer.”
Leal described the situation as “a level of incompetence that I’ve never witnessed before” and expressed doubt that the albums will ever be released. He concluded his statement with a reflection on his time with the band and his future projects. “I was tasked to front the band during a really turbulent time, replacing an iconic vocalist.
I did just that for five years, never missing a show, and even stepping on stage three days after burying my dad,” Leal shared. “Nonetheless, my efforts did not matter towards the cause I was fighting for.”
Leal ended his statement announcing his contentment in closing this chapter and expressed excitement for future projects with his bands Swim the Current and Shattered Sun. The future of “IllMortals” remains uncertain, leaving fans in continued anticipation.
