Josh King, a contestant from Matthews, North Carolina, has made it to the top 8 on “American Idol” 2025. On Sunday night, the top 10 contestants sang their hearts out to secure their spots in the next round of the competition. King chose to perform “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele.
Before his performance, he shared, “The background where I come from is blues. It’s not quite a blues song, but it’s heavily rooted in the blues.”
After his electrifying performance, King received glowing reviews from the judges. Carrie Underwood, one of the judges, said, “Everyone is bringing their ‘A’ game tonight, and you are no exception, my friend.”
Luke Bryan, another judge, added, “I loved seeing you fighting and challenging yourself.
We knew you months ago as a quiet guy behind the piano, and now you’re truly leaving it all out there. It was really inspiring to see you grow so much.”
Known for his skills as an airport pianist, King will take the stage again on Monday night as the competition narrows down to the top six. Fans who missed his Sunday night performance can catch it on Hulu.

Only 12 contestants remain in the singing competition after the April 27 episode, where the singers impressed the judges and audience with their renditions of songs by Rock Hall inductees. James Taylor, the “Fire and Rain” singer who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000, served as a guest mentor for the remaining contestants.
Ryan Seacrest, the longtime host of “American Idol,” also announced the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees on last week’s episode. The inductees include Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, and Soundgarden. “American Idol” airs on Sunday and Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
Episodes are available to stream the next day on the ABC app or website.
