Matt Cameron exits Pearl Jam
“From being one of our first musical heroes in the bands Skinyard and the mighty Soundgarden, to playing on our first demos in 1990, Matt Cameron has been a singular and true powerhouse of a musician and drummer,” the band wrote. They continued, “He has propelled the last 27 years of Pearl Jam live shows and studio recordings. It was a deeply important chapter for our group, and we wish him well always.
He will be deeply missed and is forever our friend in art and music.”
Cameron joined Pearl Jam in 1998, initially as a temporary replacement for Jack Irons, several years after the band had already achieved significant success. Prior to joining Pearl Jam, Cameron had been playing with fellow grunge legends Soundgarden for a decade. During his tenure with Pearl Jam, Cameron made his studio album debut with the band on their 2000 release, “Binaural.” He recently completed a tour with the band in support of their 12th studio album, “Dark Matter.”
As of now, there has been no announcement regarding a replacement for Cameron in Pearl Jam’s lineup.
The band has not provided any further details about their future plans or how they will proceed without their longtime drummer. Cameron’s departure marks the end of an era for Pearl Jam, as he has been an integral part of the band’s sound and success for nearly three decades. Fans around the world are undoubtedly saddened by the news but remain grateful for the incredible music and memories Cameron has helped create during his time with the band.
