Gwyneth Paltrow admits to drinking nightly during LA wildfires

Gwyneth Paltrow has spoken out about her struggles with alcohol and menopause symptoms during the Los Angeles wildfires in January. In a recent episode of “The Goop Podcast,” Paltrow admitted that she turned to drinking every night to cope with the stress and grief caused by the fires. “I noticed my symptoms are pretty well under control unless, you know, in January when the fires were happening in LA,” Paltrow said.

“I was medicating. I think I drank every night during those two weeks.”

The actress and wellness entrepreneur, who is 52 years old, revealed that her increased alcohol consumption severely worsened her menopause symptoms, which had previously been “completely out of control.” Paltrow noted that this was the first time she observed a direct link between her alcohol intake and the severity of her symptoms. Dr.

Mary Claire Haver, a board-certified OB-GYN and author of “The New Menopause,” joined Paltrow on the podcast. Dr. Haver confirmed that many of her patients have found reducing or eliminating alcohol to be beneficial during menopause. “Lots of my patients say the same thing.

They’ve really just spontaneously realized that they’ve cut back on alcohol or just quit altogether because it hasn’t been worth it,” she said.

Paltrow, who lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Brad Falchuk, and her two children from her previous marriage to Chris Martin, shared that while she and her family were safe from the fires, many of their close friends “lost everything.” This added to her stress and contributed to her increased alcohol use.

In addition to discussing her alcohol consumption, Paltrow also opened up about making changes to her diet. She said she is now focusing on eating to be strong rather than thin, which has been a difficult transition for her generation. “I’m making a real effort to do it, but sometimes I’m, like, gagging down cottage cheese — I know that it’s necessary, but…” she said.

Paltrow emphasized that her previous comments about her diet were taken out of context and were not meant to be advice for others. “This was a transparent look at a conversation between me and my doctor. It’s not meant to be advice for anybody else.

It’s really just what has worked for me and it’s been very powerful and very positive,” she said. The Los Angeles wildfires in January caused significant damage, with 29 lives lost and thousands of homes and businesses destroyed. Paltrow sold her Brentwood home for $22 million during the crisis, although the property was ultimately not affected by the fires.
