Disney’s latest release, “Mufasa: The Lion King,” continues to dominate the global box office in its sixth weekend. Paramount has announced further expansion plans for the “Sonic the Hedgehog” film series earlier this week, following the impressive performance of the third installment. Other notable releases include Studiocanal’s “Paddington in Peru,” currently playing in 35 offshore markets through Sony, and Focus Features’ specialty movies, which boast multiple Oscar and BAFTA nominations. Robert Eggers’ horror film remains Universal’s biggest horror hit in particular regions, while Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” has started its international run with promising results.
As the Lunar New Year approaches, a range of films are set to debut in China, including the IMAX-filmed “Operation Hadal” from Bona and Alibaba’s “Creation of the Gods 2”. The film industry anticipates a continued strong performance with new releases and awaits the impact of upcoming cultural festivities on box office revenues.
