Ice Cube has finalized a deal to write and star in a new “Friday” movie. The film will be the fourth in the comedy series and the first in over 20 years. It will be titled “Last Friday.”
New Line president and CCO Richard Brener confirmed the agreement with Ice Cube.
This is a big step forward for the project that fans have been waiting for. Ice Cube is excited about the collaboration. He said the new leadership at Warner Bros., including co-chief Michael De Luca, has been key in making this happen.
“They have new leadership: my man Mike De Luca, who used to be at New Line when I first started, when I first did the first ‘Friday’ and ‘Players Club’ and ‘All About the Benjamins.’ Mike De Luca was there,” Ice Cube said. Ice Cube has wanted to make another “Friday” film for a long time.
Ice Cube returns to ‘Last Friday’ series
In June 2024, he said there was “traction” for “Last Friday” during an interview on Flavor Flav’s SiriusXM show “Flavor of the Week.”
The “Friday” series started in 1995 with the original movie. Ice Cube co-wrote it with DJ Pooh. He wrote the two sequels, “Next Friday” (2000) and “Friday After Next” (2002), by himself.
New Line developed all three films at first, with De Luca playing a big role. Later, Warner Bros. bought New Line and got the rights to the “Friday” franchise.
Fans are very excited for Ice Cube to return to the series. The movies have had a big impact on comedy and pop culture.
