Dev Alahan, a beloved character on Coronation Street for over two decades, is set to leave the cobbles in upcoming scenes. Dev, played by Jimmi Harkishin, will be traveling to India to support his aunt Gita after learning she has had a fall. In tonight’s episode, Dev shared the news with his partner Bernie, played by Jane Hazlegrove.
He expressed his hope that she would accompany him on the trip. Bernie, touched by the invitation, declined, stating that she could not leave her daughter Gemma at this time. Dev, though disappointed, suggested they could make the trip together in the future.
Later, at the Rovers Return Inn, Dev’s son Aadi acted strangely when the topic of Dev’s trip came up.
Dev takes brief leave from Weatherfield
Dev correctly guessed that Aadi wanted to manage the family businesses, including the kebab shop and the corner shop, during his absence.
After some hesitation, Dev agreed to let Aadi take charge on a trial basis. A spokesperson for Coronation Street confirmed that Harkishin’s break from the show will be brief, and he is expected to return to the screen in the spring of 2025. The exact date of Dev’s return to Weatherfield remains uncertain.
Dev’s recent storylines have seen him supporting Bernie through the heartbreaking loss of her son Paul, who passed away from motor neurone disease last year. Meanwhile, Aadi’s relationship with Amy seems to be blossoming, and Asha continues her work as a student paramedic. Coronation Street remains committed to engaging its audience with compelling storylines and character developments.
Viewers can look forward to Dev Alahan’s return later in the year and the ongoing drama in Weatherfield.
