Emily O’Brien returns to “Days of Our Lives” this week as Theresa to support her son Tate. She will also reprise her role as Gwen, Jack Deveraux’s daughter, in July for a longer stint. O’Brien enjoys playing characters with an edge.
She says it comes naturally to her and allows for more versatility. Playing Theresa in 2023 was an unexpected pleasure, giving her the chance to portray a fun-loving blonde. When O’Brien first took over the role of Theresa from Jen Lilley, the show had her walk into the story as her new character the same day Gwen walked out.
It was a bizarre experience, but she embraced it after receiving a round of applause from the crew. As she turns 40 in May, O’Brien has been working on restoring a 1977 MG Midget with her dad. She reflects on valuing genuine quality time with loved ones as she reaches this milestone.
O’Brien also appreciates her work in video games and animated TV, which involves motion capture and performing on stage. When “Days of Our Lives” decided to bring Gwen back, O’Brien was considering a move to New York for theater. She loves playing Gwen and feels there is still much to explore with the character’s relationships.
Working with Greg Rikaart, who plays Leo, has been serendipitous for O’Brien.

Gwen will return to Salem this summer as a bit of a new woman. However, Theresa’s visit will be short-lived as she receives upsetting news that forces her to say goodbye to her family shortly after arriving. This week on “Days of Our Lives,” secrets are being kept and long-held ones are coming to light.
The mystery of the two Rafes continues as Jada, Gabi, and Shawn have proof that Arnold had been impersonating Rafe. Theresa returns just as Brady tries to calm Tate down about John’s disappearance. Tate’s troubles worsen when Theresa learns she will be a grandma.
Joy gets her test results while Stephanie tells Alex that his former co-star could be carrying his child. Johnny fumes to Roman about EJ’s possible involvement in replacing Rafe with Arnold, the man who raped his mother. Roman reveals that EJ is a rapist too, and Kate informs Johnny that EJ raped his mother.
As Johnny goes to confront EJ, EJ brandishes a syringe behind his back, possibly containing a memory-wiping serum. On Monday, March 10, “Days of our Lives” fans can expect a dramatic episode with unexpected twists. Kristen fears the worst for her future, Rachel Blake threatens Ava, Rafe demands answers from EJ, and Holly berates Melinda in a heated confrontation.
